Fall Internet World ë98, New York, October 7, 1998--Mainstay demonstrated PageCharmer(TM) Pro, a family of customizable Java applets designed to offer a widely available, cross-browser, cross-platform alternative today to what Dynamic HTML (DHTML). PageCharmer Pro Java applets offer DHTML-like control objects and interactive display billboards banners and graphs that require no programming or scripting. Button and imagemap controllers send messages to billboards and banners for exciting interactive text, graphics, animation and multimedia displays. PageCharmer Pro applets work in all popularly used versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator equally, and without modification. And PageCharmer Pro applets are WYSIWYG customizable in real-time through Mainstayís included AppletSetír technology--directly within a web browser.

PageCharmer Pro gives web page designers the ability to add DHTML-like controls and interactive displays without the need to use browser-dependent DHTML or scripting. Displays may change automatically when a user interacts with a live PageCharmer Pro button or imagemap. This is done via AppletEvents(TM) which are sent between and among various applets or, optionally, via JavaScript. Elements of the billboards can also react to events; for example, a click on a static or moving element within an animated billboard can pause the display. Additionally, PageCharmer Pro offers choreographed control of various applets which may be located anywhere in a web page. The PageConductor(TM) applet provides autopilot event sequence control while the SoundConductor(TM) applet provides coordinated sound, voice and music among various applets.

Compact, less than 15KB on the average, and optimized for fast, responsive web pages, a PageCharmer Pro applet is designed to offer maximum variability. Each applet can be customized with point-and-click ease into virtually an unlimited number of unique variations, without writing any HTML, DHTML, JavaScript, or programming of any kind. PageCharmer Pro applet properties are set using Mainstayís AppletSetír(TM)--included. Using AppletSetír, PageCharmer Proís applet parameters are changed interactively, with WYSIWYG results in real-time, in any Java-capable browser. AppletSetír works with any Java-enabled browser like Netscape Navigator(TM), Communicator(TM), and Microsoft Internet Explorer(TM) and runs on all platforms including Windows(TM), Macintosh(TM), and Unix(TM).

PageCharmer Proís AppletSetírs offer direct menu access to included graphics and sound libraries. Over 500 web-optimized graphics and sounds are included with PageCharmer Pro. Graphics and sounds are selectable from pop-up menus in the AppletSetírs. Pre-made billboards and banners, designed for a variety of purposes, can be customized for a userís specific needs. Custom graphics and sounds can be used directly by the AppletSetírs simply by supplying the name of any file (GIF, JPG, and AU). New graphics and sounds can also be added to the AppletSetírs pop-up menus.

PageCharmer Pro preserves the value of a websiteís existing HTML, while adding the ability to rise above common static graphics and uncontrollable animated GIFs. Because PageCharmer Pro requires no CGI programming or scripting, it is useable by anyone with even limited web page design experience.

LiveG-Map(TM)--An image map based upon any graphic. User-defined regions have a "highlighted" state which is displayed when a cursor rolls over the button and a "clicked" state. An optional tab mode can be used to keep the current selected area highlighted (similar to Tab dialogs in Windows). Region types surpass standard HTML capabilities giving users more control with the ability to define ovals, rectangles and polygons. A URL, AppletEvent, and rollover and click sounds can be defined for each region. A pop-up menu with individual menu item URLs and AppletEvents can be defined for each region to provide unlimited navigational and interactive control capabilities. An AppletEvent can be assigned to roll-over, exit, and click.

LiveT-Map(TM)--A rectangular, button-bar image map created from user-defined text. Each text string becomes a sub-rectangle with an assignable URL, AppletEvent, and unique properties for "rollover", "exit", and "click" states.

LiveG-Button(TM)--A button applet based upon a graphic with different states for idle, cursor roll-over, click. Sounds can be assigned to the latter two states. An assigned URL is called when the button is clicked, and AppletEvents can be sent by cursor "rollover", "exit", and "click".

LiveGT-Button(TM)--Create a navigation button using any size graphic, then overlay a word or phrase. Complete rollover and sound control is available for each button as well as AppletEvent sending during cursor roll-over, exit, and click.

LiveT-Button(TM)--URL assignable navigation buttons are created by simply typing in a word or phrase. Complete rollover and sound control is available for each button as well as AppletEvent sending during cursor roll-over, exit, and click.

LiveAuto-Chart(TM)--Automatically charts data found in a specified text file co-located on a web server. Pie, bar, line and 3-dimensional charts can be selected by the web designer. The data file can be updated independently at any time, effectively separating the graph design from the graph content.

LiveG-Billboard(TM)--Dynamic display billboard for automatic, or interactive display of graphics. Forty unique display effects for individual or global actions. Interactive control capability via received AppletEvents from any of PageCharmer Pro's Interactive Controls (see list above). AppletEvents can also be sent by any displayed graphic within the billboard to affect the billboard itself or another PageCharmer Pro billboard. Automatic sequence display is possible using PageConductor, and sound effects can be added using SoundConductor.

LiveGA-Billboard(TM)--Sprite-based display billboard for automatic, or interactive display of static and animated graphic objects. Object layering and precision coordinated control of all sprites can be controlled by the billboard itself or by external applets such as any of PageCharmer Pro's Interactive Controls (see above). LiveX-Banner(TM)--Similar to the LiveG-Banner, the LiveX-Banner uses a series of graphics, applying a smooth dissolve transition effect from one graphic to the next.

LiveG-Spray(TM)--Creates a slide show of multiple graphics utilizing a three-dimensional "spray gun" effect. The spray source position placement and speed can be modified.

LiveT-Spray(TM)--Similar to the LiveG-Spray, the LiveT-Spray displays sprayed-on text headlines. Change the font, size and color of each message.

LiveG-Marquee(TM)¾ A scrolling graphic marquee with multiple graphic messages. Each message can have a unique introduction and exit effect, speed, and assigned URL.

LiveT-Marquee(TM)¾ A scrolling text message marquee with multiple text strings, intro and exit effects, text color, scroll speed, and style. The marquee size and border (including animated borders) are user defined, and a URL can be assigned to any string.

LiveG-Ticker(TM)¾ A scrolling graphic ticker with any length graphic message. Both foreground and background images can be specified.

LiveT-Ticker(TM)¾ A scrolling text ticker with a customizable message of any length. Font, size, style, color, message speed, and moving background images are all user-defined.

PageConductor(TM)--AppletEvent automatic sequencing and control for any of the PageCharmer Pro billboards. Can send AppletEvents to one or more billboards for tightly synchronized self-running billboard effects.

SoundConductor(TM)--Stores sounds, then plays the appropriate sound when an AppletEvent is received from any PageCharmer Pro Interactive Control, Dynamic Billboard, or the PageConductor.
